Things to Do in Settle
If you are proficient in caving and are looking to improve your skills, or are seeking the next challenge, then this advanced caving course in the Yorkshire Dales is perfect for you. The session begins at the Yorkshire Dales Guides purpose built barn. At the barn you shall learn the basic methods used to descend and ascend using the Single Rope Techniques (SRT).
Once you have mastered the basics of the SRT, your adventure shall begin in the underground passages around Ribblesdale. Using your newly learnt skills will allow you to explore the fascinating cave systems in the Yorkshire Dales. You’ll use your skills to negotiate the ropes deep into the vertical passages, you’ll negotiate your way through horizontal passages, through watery passages and large water streams, abseil and climb underground waterfalls and even crawl through some squeezes if you wish.
You’ll be in very safe hands as your instructor is a local, qualified and very experienced caver and has thorough knowledge of the underground caving systems in the Yorkshire Dales. You shall be provided and shown how to use specialist caving equipment to ensure you shall have a safe and enjoyable caving trip.
During the course you will learn about:
• the sport and the equipment
• descents and accents using the SRT
• abseiling and safety line techniques
• risks associated around caving and how to stay safe
• the different cave features and formations

The advanced caving trip starts between 9 and 9.30 am although alternative times can be arranged to suit throughout the day.
The course lasts approximately 5-6 hours from meeting at the Yorkshire Dales Guides Barn.
Recommended clothing and safety elements:
• Caving under / over suits
• Safety gear
Please bring the flowing with you:
• A towel
• Two pairs of long thick socks
• A change of underwear
• Any personal medication (please make us aware of any serious medical condition at the time of booking)
At certain times of the year a thermal top, hat, gloves and a scarf are also advisable!
