Things to Do in Pateley Bridge
Guided Walk: A Nidderdale High Way
Explore Nidderdale as you’ve never seen it before with Feet in the Clouds Guided Walking!
With the Dales Way now having a sister route, the Dales High Way, we thought we’d give the Nidderdale Way the same treatment…
While our Pateley Bridge to How Stean Gorge walk follows a section of the traditional Nidderdale Way lower in the valley, this route takes a higher level route across a lengthy stretch of the moorland overlooking the dale, expanded to include Brimham Rocks and Scar House Reservoir in an epic route which starts high and stays high until its very end.
After marvelling at the surreal rock formations at Brimham, we pass through high farmland onto Dallowgill Moor. Following a good track to Kettlestang Hill and its fantastic views, we then enter wild and pathless heather moorland, making our way steadily to the next stone track above Ramsgill. Staying high, we follow the edge of the dale above Lofthouse and the Scar valley, encountering some of the best views in Nidderdale via some prominent coal mining remains. Finally we cross the mighty Scar House dam to our minibus pick-up point, and a return to our starting point at Brimham.
